The current release target
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar repeated that date in the October 15 launch-trailer announcement, so the target remained current when this guide was reviewed on October 20. The countdown measures calendar days to the date; it is not a promise of a worldwide simultaneous unlock.
Which consoles are announced?
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are listed. PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC are not listed as release platforms in the official sources reviewed here. “Plays best on PlayStation 5” is a marketing statement shown on Rockstar’s site; it does not remove Xbox Series X|S from the announced platform list.
The delay history
Rockstar first announced a broad 2025 window, later named May 26, 2026, and then moved the release to November 19, 2026 in a November 6, 2025 Newswire post. We retain those previous targets as timeline events instead of deleting them, because they explain why older search results and videos may show a different date.
Preload is not release
Rockstar Support says preloading begins November 12 at local midnight for digital preorders and redeemed code-in-box copies. Preload availability means files can download ahead of launch. It does not authorize early play and should not be used as the release date in calendars or countdowns.
What time will GTA VI unlock?
Rockstar has not published one universal unlock time in the source used for this guide. Platform stores can display timing based on account region. The safest answer is to check the purchased product in the relevant console store and avoid converting one region’s countdown into a global claim.
How we handle another date change
A new date becomes confirmed only through Rockstar, Take-Two investor material, or an authenticated platform listing that clearly supersedes the current schedule. If that happens, the top answer and countdown will change immediately while the timeline preserves November 19 as a former target.
